Let's go Fly a Kite
There's nothing like a windy day to bring out the Beast in people. Windy days reek of frustration. From your trash cans tipping over and blowing your garbage all over the neighborhood, to your car being knocked around on the Freeway like a Ping Pong ball, and of course we cannot forget that immaculate hairstyle you were rocking before you stepped outside. Now you look like Donald Trump mixed with a Wookie. Let the irritation begin!
Might I suggest before you angrily stomp to the restroom to fix your unruly mop- to take a deep breath and go outside to fly a kite. Personally I find flying a kite to be relaxing and nostalgic. Our lives are set on High all the time. We speed through our daily routine never stopping to take a break and enjoy the small pleasures. Now obviously most of us don't carry a kite with us all the time but that shouldn't stop you from pausing to readjust your attitude and change your own life. Our lives weren't meant to be one stressful event after another. You have the capability to be amazing, to do spectacular things! So before you let a little wind ruin your day and everyone's around you- take a minute to breath and think of a way you can turn that wind into an adventure instead of a frustration.
Literally flying a kite can be Cathartic. It can ease tension, provide exercise, and get you outside. Teaching a child to fly a kite allows them to learn patience and gives them a sense of accomplish when they see their kite darting back and forth among the clouds. Unfortunately due to the constant presence of technology- our children's lives are going to be even more fast paced than our own. They are persistently bombarded with new games, Apps, and new social media platforms. Teach them that life exists beyond the glowing screen. Taking a moment to do something out of your ordinary routine can create not only a beautiful memory but something that can be shared (and I don't mean on Social Media) with those you love.
So the next time you are about to have a melt down over a little wind, traffic, dirty dishes, your co-worker that burnt popcorn in the microwave, etc... Go fly a kite... before someone else tells you to.
