More than just Books at the Sandy Library!
What kind of person blogs about a Library? Well I do! When I am not out and about Selling homes- I am spending time at the Library or at home in my personal Library reading. I love books! One thing that I have come to discover about the Sandy Library is that it is more than just Books. They have so much to offer and if it took me over 30 years to realize that then I bet a lot of you don't know about all their special programs either. So that is where my blog comes in. Hopefully you will discover a fun new activity to try out there too.
First off for those of us with small children- they have some really fun activities all week long for the little ones. These activities include: Free playtime, Drop-in storytime, Puppet shows, Parachute playtime, Dance classes, Lego Club, and Read to a Dog days. My kids are pretty young so their favorites are Free playtime and the puppet shows. Free Playtime consists of the librarian dumping out a bunch of boxes of toys and the kids can play together for an hour. For siblings that are slightly older- they also set up craft or coloring tables. This is great for socialization for younger kids and it gives me a chance to spend an hour answering emails and getting some work done while my kids play in front of me in a safe environment.
My kids also love the special events the Library puts on. Like "Party like a Minion" Day. The library set up a bunch of Minion themed crafts and even had a drawing for the kids to win Megaplex gift cards.
For your older kids, they offer Afternoons at the Movies, Jewelry and craft classes, Minecraft club, Pokemon club, science classes, etc.
For the adults, the library offers Wi-fi access, computers, printers, a Book Club, Movie screenings and of course Books, Movies, and Books on cd.
I personally love that they have a huge selection of movies and TV shows to check out. Why waste money on Cable, Netflix, or Redbox when you can check them out for free at the Library.
I have also discovered the joy of Books on CD. Being a working Mother- I do not have a ton of spare time to sit down with a book. So I frequently can be seen listening to a Book on tape while working in my office or on the way to show homes. My personal recommendation if you are new to Books on tape- would be to check out any book narrated by Katherine Kellgren. A good narrator makes all the difference and she is one of the best. Feel free to contact me anytime for good book suggestions. I love talking about books! The Sandy Library has a huge selection of books on CD.
To find out more about what events are happening now at the Library- you can pop in and grab a calendar from the front desk or check out the website:
I hope this gave you some great ideas of things you can do. There is nothing worse than being stuck in your house all day especially if you have small kids that get bored easily. Teach your kids that the Library can be an adventure and then maybe they will also appreciate reading. I hope to see you all at the library soon! If you catch a glimpse of me then please do stop and say Hi. I love meeting new people!
And of course- let me know if I can assist in anyway with your Real Estate needs. I am your local Utah Realtor/ Bookworm!
